State Fair Rides 2013 2

Just a sign that the fair is getting closer. Rides for the mid-way have already starting arriving on the grounds. These trucks with rides on them sit in the kids section of what will be the midway.

The Kansas State Fair will celebrate its 100th Birthday with a parade and celebratory event on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2. The parade, featuring entries from across the state, will begin at 3:00 p-m, at 12th and Main St. in Hutchinson and travel north on Main en route for the 23rd Street State Fair entrance.

Ross Janssen and Millie the Weather Dog of KWCH-TV Channel 12 News as well as Richard Shank, the City of Hutchinson’s Ambassador to the State Fair, will serve as the event’s Co-Grand Marshalls. Governor Sam Brownback has also confirmed participation in the parade.

Entries will be judged in the following categories: Best Use of Parade Theme, Best Overall Entry, Most Creative/Original, Best Performance, and Judge’s Choice. Winners will be awarded a cash prize.

Parade goers are encouraged to join the celebration following the parade. Beginning at 4:00 p-m, the band “INSTEP” will perform at the Lake Talbott entertainment stage on the fairgrounds. Attendees will be able to purchase Pronto Pups and other concessions, free ice cream, provided by Dillons, will be distributed while quantities last. Drawings will be held for State Fair related prizes, and the parade winners will be announced.

The parade is sponsored by Young Professionals of Reno County and the Kansas State Fair. For more information contact info@www.yprenocounty.com.
