HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The U.S.D. 308 School Board Monday night approved new elementary school boundaries on a 7-0 vote. The boundaries go into effect for the 2016-17 school year for current students.
The boundaries are the work product of a process that began a year ago. A citizens and staff committee recommended to the board that the best way to save significant money on the district budget was to eliminate a track of classes out of McCandless Elementary School. The board agreed with the recommendation earlier this calendar year.
Then in the summer, a second committee, composed of parents from each of the district’s elementary schools and staff worked through a process to redraw boundaries. The committee received technical assistance from RSP Associates.
Also during Monday’s meeting, the district received is annual audit report. Independent auditors found no issues with district finances for the 2014-15 school year.
The full 125-page Consolidated Annual Financial Report will be posted on the district’s website on the Business Office page later this week.
