HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Mayor Jade Piros de Carvalho has announced that the Drug Impact Task Force has been awarded the Leadership Transformation Grant from the Kansas Leadership Center.

This award grants access to $10,000 worth of leadership training in 2016. The goal for the training is to gain progress around the drug challenge in our community.

KLC will be launching this initiative formally at a strategy workshop for grantees on Jan. 8 at the Kansas Leadership Center. At that time, the mayor says she will learn more about the available programs and begin designing the implementation strategy for leveraging the training to make the biggest impact.

She says they will also be selecting people to attend the training that have a passion for this issue and a commitment to making progress on it in the Hutchinson community. If you feel strongly that you’d like to be one of those selected, you’re asked to contact her. You can do that at Jadepiros@gmail.com.

The December meeting of the Drug task Force will be on Thursday, Dec. 17, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in city council chambers.

She says ultimately, the goal is to develop a plan to tackle the drug problem in Hutchinson and to develop a structure to support that plan.
