HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The preliminary hearing for Brennan Trass, who is charged with first-degree murder, was scheduled to resume this afternoon in Reno County District Court, however, we received an email from Judge Trish Rose late Wednesday afternoon indicating that hearing will resume later this month.
Trass is accused in the shooting death of 24-year-old Jose Morales, who was found on the floor of a residence back on Aug. 17 with multiple gunshot wounds. He died about 90 minutes later at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
The hearing is to determine if there is probable cause to send the case to trial. According to the judge, the state discovered some new evidence which is why the resumption of hearing is being delayed. But, Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton told us that actually it was a video that the defense apparently didn’t have and so they received that and wanted time to review it.
They had apparently attempted to show the video earlier during the hearing, but it turned out to be an audio recording instead.
So, with that request, the hearing is now set to resume on Dec. 29.
