NEWTON, Kan. – Police in Newton worked a standoff near 2nd and Oak streets Monday afternoon.
A Newton officer attempted to stop a car traveling on Main Street, which fled onto East 2nd. The car pulled into a driveway and the passenger ran into the house.
Police officers surrounded the house and used loud speakers to speak to the man. They eventually made phone contact with him. After about 30 minutes, the man came out of the house and was taken into custody.
The man was arrested on outstanding warrants from Sumner County, obstruction of official duty, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The driver of the car, who had remained in the vehicle, was also arrested on warrants and drug charges.
Neither man’s identity was released by Newton Police.
