HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The preliminary hearing for Brennan Trass, who is charged with first-degree murder, continues in Reno County District Court.
Trass is accused in the shooting death of 24-year-old Jose Morales, who was found on the floor of a residence back on Aug. 17 with multiple gunshot wounds. He died about 90 minutes later at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
The hearing centers on the shooting and the discovery of the victim. Officer Matthew Rucker testified that the victim had three wounds. He told the court the victim was lying on his back and that he appeared to have trouble breathing. They eventually took the victim outside because the house wasn’t cleared of possible suspects and they didn’t want EMTs coming into the home.
The victim suffered three wounds, one to his abdomen, one to the back and one to one of his hands. They also found several shell casings near the victim as well as bullet holes at the residence.
The defendant himself apparently called 911 at one point and indicated that he had information on the shooting. Officers then responded to a residence in the 200 block of East 10th. They eventually took Trass to the Law Enforcement Center where he was interviewed on his knowledge of the shooting.
Testimony Monday afternoon was for the investigation that led to the arrest of Trass and him being charged with murder.
The hearing continued late into Monday afternoon and it was unclear if the hearing would conclude Monday. Check back later for updates.
