HAVEN, Kan. – Five people were taken to the hospital in Hutchinson after an accident just north of Sun City Road and Willison just after 6 p.m. Saturday.
According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office. 45-year-old Jon Riley of Hutchinson was picking up trash in a 2007 Freightliner trash truck and had pulled his truck over in the south bound lane facing northbound just north of Sun City Rd. on Willison Rd. He was out of his vehicle emptying the garbage cans into the back of his truck when his truck was struck head on by 44-year-old Anthony Lane of Haven.
Lane was driving south on Willison and didn’t see that the trash truck was stopped in his lane of travel. Due to the heavy ice and snow on the roadway, he was unable to stop and struck the Freightliner head on.
33-year-old Angela Lane also of Haven was the front seat passenger and she and two of her juvenile kids were transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for injuries.
Anthony Lane and a juvenile daughter were uninjured in the accident but were also taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by Haven EMS to be checked out.
Riley reported minor injuries from his vehicle sliding into him, but was not transported.
The accident occurring about six miles south of Haven.
