HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 36-year-old Hutchinson man who has been jailed since Oct. 31, 2013, while he waited for his case to make it through the court system, will finally be released after he was sentenced Friday.
Felix Bribiesca was sentenced on several charges, the most serious being a charge of aggravated battery in a case from Nov. 23, 2013. In that case, he’s charged with battering another man, Ismael Chavez.
He also entered plea to attempted theft for a case on Oct. 31 of that same year, as well as two charges of false impersonation and a misdemeanor count of issuing a worthless check.
In one case that goes back to Oct. 31, 2013, he is charged with three counts of forgery and one count of theft by deception. In the other case, he’s charged with aggravated battery that goes back to Nov. 23, 2013.
He sat in jail all that time on a bond of $17,750, however, Judge Chambers noted that he did spend some time at Larned State Hospital. His attorney, Steve Osburn, noted that he wanted to be placed on probation even though he may have very well served the sentence.
Judge Chambers sentenced him to an underlying sentence of two years, eight months, but then granted him two years on community corrections, meaning he’ll finally be released from the Reno County Correctional Facility.
Bribiesca is no stranger to the court system, having served time for burglary, robbery, drugs, and obstruction. Those crimes occurred in Reno, Harvey and Sedgwick counties. He was released from prison on Sept. 16, 2013. His previous sentence expired on June 30, 2015.
