Reducing Speed Limit On 30th East Of Lorraine Being Considered

East 30 th at Waldron

Some may be happy, while others will be upset if the city agrees to a request from a citizen who thinks the speed limit on 30th east of Lorraine should be reduced. It’s currently 45 mph, and that citizen thinks it could be lowered to 35 mph, considering it goes by two school zones and with the new addition of the Dillon’s Marketplace store that opens next week near 30th & Waldron.

The school zones do require drivers to slow to 20 mph twice a day during school times and there is a turn lane for traffic going into the new Dillon’s. They have upgraded the intersection of 30th & Waldron to accommodate traffic to the new store as well as to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

Hutchinson Public Works plan to do a traffic study on September 3, and if they decide its necessary, they will bring the proposal back before the City Council at their September 17, meeting.

Many who drive the route would note that even though the limit is 45 mph, between Lorraine and K-61, many don’t drive that fast.
