HUTCHINSON, Kan. –- At around 12:40 p.m. Friday afternoon, Hutchinson fire units responded to the 8300 block of North Plum St for a reported brush fire.
When they arrived, they found approximately five acres of grass and brush burning in a utility right of way. Crews had the fire under control in 25-minutes and were on scene for two hours for mop up operations. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Then just before 5 p.m., fire units responded to the 1400 block of Katie Dr. for a reported structure fire in an apartment complex.
When they arrived they found light smoke coming from the third story of the complex. Crews made quick access to the affected apartment to find an unattended cooking fire contained to the stove top. No occupants were present during the fire and crews forced entry to gain access. Crews remained on scene for twenty minutes.
No Injuries were reported from either fire.
