HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old Hutchinson man made a first court appearance on some serious charges after his arrest over the weekend.
Arthur A. Pina faces potential charges of aggravated kidnapping, battery-domectic Violence, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The victim alleges that she was with Pina and they apparently got into some type of argument and she wanted to leave his vehicle and alleges he refused to let her go. She was apparently at some point able to escape and make the report.
When police made contact with Pina, they discovered the drugs and paraphernalia and allege it was a sellers quantity. This occurring just before 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
In court, he claims that the victim got upset because he wouldn’t give her any drugs and that’s why she made the report. He asked for a reduction of bond. Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen agreed to lower it from $110,000 to $50,000, but wouldn’t lower it any further because of the potential charges and also past criminal history.
He has convictions out of both Reno and Sherman Counties. That includes the sale of drugs within a thousand feet of a school, cultivation of drugs, possession of a precursor to manufacture and endangerment of a child. Those convictions are out of Reno County. He also has convictions for distribution of drugs and possession of drugs for a case out of Sherman County.
He’s expected to back in court on Nov. 9, for the reading of any formal charges.
