HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The U.S.D. 308 Board of Education Monday heard a report on the district’s bully prevention plans.
During the district’s opening convocation and first-of-the-year professional development in August, all staff received training on Safe and Civil Schools. The program focuses on positive behavior supports.
The district also has used age-appropriate curriculum at different levels for bullying prevention. At the elementary level, for example, the district uses the “No Put Downs” curriculum. At the middle school, increased focus is placed on cyberbullying. At Hutchinson High School, students are focused on Guidelines for Success and Rachel’s Challenge.
The district follows state bullying laws and has a flowchart of the law printed in parent-student handbooks.
They also began the process of refinancing a portion of the bonds issued to finance capital improvements made possible by the 2006 bond election. The refinancing at current rates would save the district taxpayers $837,350.
The board also approved surplus items to go to auction, approved the Head Start federal financing report and approved the continuation of interagency agreement between the district and the Reno County Educational Cooperative and the McPherson Special Education Cooperative.
