HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A motion hearing for a woman charged with unlawful sexual relations with an inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility is in recess for now.
Marla Criqui is charged in the case for the alleged conduct with a 30-year-old inmate.
The hearing was over a defense motion to suppress statements she made to investigators where she allegedly admitted to the sexual relations with Breland Davis. She alleges she felt intimidated and scared to the point where she felt she had to say what he wanted to hear in order to be allowed to leave.
The state called two investigators from the prison who testified that it wasn’t an interrogation, but an interview. However, John Marcus testified that he did place a CD on the table and told her things that weren’t exactly the truth in order to get her to talk. The defense contends she was coerced, while the state denies that happened.
Criqui was working for a food service contractor for the prison and the inmate worked with her in the kitchen of the central unit when the alleged encounters occurred. The state alleges the crime occurred between June 11, 2012, and June 15, 2012.
Prison officials got word about this happening through an anonymous letter that started the investigation.
Again, the hearing is in recess and, when it resumes, we’ll let you know what happens.
