HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A man just released from prison earlier this year was arrested after a traffic stop has been formally charged by the state with some fairly serious charges.
Kenneth Thompson Jr. is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, driving while suspended, his third arrest on this charge, and personal use drug paraphernalia.
Thompson was stopped by a Hutchinson Police officer on a traffic matter on Sept. 24. He was arrested for driving while suspended. They also allegedly found a sellers quantity of marijuana as well as paraphernalia the state alleges was used to distribute the drug.
For only being 23, he has a pretty substantial criminal history and had just been paroled from prison on July 2. Thompson was convicted of breaking into the home of then Hutchinson Mayor Ron Sellers, plus numerous others, all occurring in February of 2012.
Sellers was credited with helping catch Thompson when he apparently watched his home being invaded. He then called police leading to the 19-year-old’s arrest.
Police recovered numerous items believed to have been stolen by Thompson and also allegedly found pictures of children under the age of 18.
Bond in this latest case is only $5,000, however, there may be a parole hold from KDOC as well.
With the formal charges filed in this latest case, Judge Joe McCarville set it for a future waiver-status docket.
