A mother and her 1-year-old daughter were taken to a Wichita hospital after a two vehicle accident just north of the city Wednesday evening.
Reno County Sheriff Deputy Andrew Soule says he was dispatched to 43rd and Lorraine on the report of an injury accident involving someone being trapped in a vehicle. When he arrived, he found a 2002 white Pontiac Grand Am and a 2004 red GMC Sierra both had come to rest in the east ditch of Lorraine, south of 43rd. The driver of the Grand Am was identified as 19-year-old Tara Becker of Hutchinson. Her 1-year-old daughter was in a car seat in the back seat of the vehicle.
Becker was eastbound on 43rd when she entered the intersection and was hit squarely on the driver’s side by the pickup. The pickup was being driven by 27-year-old Heidi Stohr also of Hutchinson. Neither driver were wearing their seat-belts at the time of the accident.
Becker’s daughter was buckled properly in a car seat and both she and her daughter were transported by Reno County EMS to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. Stohr was transported by private vehicle to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.
