HUTCHINSON – It’s Governor’s Day at the fair meaning that Governor Sam Brownback will be on the grounds today.
It’s also a special gate admission day at the fair. Anytime after 4 p.m., gate admission is only $4 for all ages.
Your Move “50 vs. One” Chess Exhibit: Sponsored by Hutchinson Community College
11 a.m., House of Capper
The first-ever chess event sponsored by Hutchinson Community College on Sept. 17. You can try and take down your opponent, Gabriel Purdy, at the House of Capper. Renowned chess expert and Kansas-raised Purdy will be playing 50 chess games simultaneously. You read that right: 50 games at once.
Blitz Chess Games and Mega Chess: Presented by the Hutchinson Community College Chess Club
2 p.m., Encampment Tent (East of Encampment Building)
Bring your blazing-fast chess moves to the Kansas State Fair on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. to beat your opponent in the first-ever Blitz Chess Tournament. Prizes will be awarded to the top eight finalists of the tournament. Fairgoers will also have the option of playing a Mega Chess set. All skill levels are welcome. Don’t miss the chess action in the Encampment Tent!
Sunflower State Surprise Contest
7 p.m., Domestic Arts Building
Calling all creative chefs to the Sunflower State Surprise Contest at the Kansas State Fair Sept. 17. Create a masterpiece food item using sunflower seeds or a sunflower by-product. Judging begins at 7 p.m. so be sure to turn your surprise snack in to the judges by 6 p.m. May the best chef be the Sunflower State Surprise champion!
