Bring a Veteran to Brunch
10:30 a.m., Encampment Building, Dillon Hall

Show your American Fried N’ Joy at the Veteran Brunch! A complimentary brunch honoring all Veterans will be held on Wednesday in the Encampment Building. Elliott Mortuary sponsors this event, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Dillon Hall of the Encampment Building.

Retired Lt. Col. , Wounded Warrior Dave Johnson and his wife, Petra, will be speaking at the brunch . These individuals might not refer to themselves as heroes, but they help provide an up-close account of Veterans’ constant faith in America and they’re comrades, a key reason to celebrate all veterans at Wednesday’s brunch.

RSVPs are required for this brunch. Please call 620.669.3610 to see if seating is still available.

Are you the Quickest Needle in the West?
Check-in from 10 – 10:45 a.m., competition begins at 11 a.m., Domestic Arts Building, Kitchen Stage Area

Knitters will bring their own needles and yarn to participate in the Fastest Needles in the West competition as they compete to create an adult-size stocking cap. The winner will be based on both speed and quality. Come watch the competition and see who has the fastest needle for this on-site crocheting contest.

Glenda and Mike’s Magic Show
10:30 a.m., Nex-Tech Wireless Stage at Lake Talbott

Glenda and Mike Mann have performed over the years at fairs, churches, festivals, schools and even on television. They are experienced in weaving messages throughout illusions and puppetry. Prepare yourself for laughter and amazement at this free comical magic and ventriloquism show that fairgoers of all ages will enjoy.

Super Cow-Calf Contest
2 p.m., Prairie Pavilion

The Super Cow-Calf Contest will feature pairs in pasture condition, with no fitting allowed. Cows and calves will be judged on type, structure, muscling, natural fleshing and soundness of udder, eyes, feet and legs. Cow weight and the calf’s projected 205-day adjusted weight will be given to the judges.

Come see the best cows and calves that Kansas has to offer!

Arm Wrestling Results
Over 30 participants competed in Sunday’s arm wrestling competition as an interested crowd of 100-plus watched in anticipation.

Kansas Spelling Bee Results

The Kansas State Fair hosted its 14th annual Kansas State Fair Spelling Bee on Monday, Sept. 14. The competition included two different age categories: 3rd through 5th grades and 6th through 8th grades. Written exams began at 9 a.m. and 67 spellers arrived to partake (17 in the 3rd – 5th grade division and 50 in the 6th – 8thgrade division). All 17 of the 3rd through 5th graders and 20 of the 6th through 8th graders competed in the oral competition at 10:00 am. in Hansen Auditorium/Encampment Building.

3rd Through 5th Grade Division
First place – Sukesh Kamesh, 5th Grade – Kingman Grade School, Manhattan, KS
Second place – Kate Halabi, 5th Grade – Horace Mann Magnet School, Wichita, KS

6th Through 8th Grade Division

First place – Ella Rosenkranz, 8th Grade – Eisenhower Middle School, Manhattan, KS
Second place – Emily Ryan, 8th Grade – Central Plains School, Claflin, KS
