Michael Brisco 2

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The case against a Hutchinson man accused of murder was before Judge Tim Chambers Friday for a pretrial hearing Friday where the defense was granted a continuance.

The trial for Michael Brisco is scheduled to begin on October 5, however his attorney, Steve Osburn asked for more time noting that the state plans to call 21 civilian witnesses meaning he needs time to go through the disc provided by the state for those interviews.

Brisco is charged with murder for the shooting death of 26-year-old Sem Adrien back on Sept. 9, 2013. Other charges include criminal possession of a firearm, aggravated intimidation of a victim or witness, possession of methamphetamine and solicitation to commit perjury.

Judge Chambers had ruled at an earlier hearing that the state wouldn’t be able to use every interview at trial, but could use parts of them to make a point to the jury.

The judge asked Osburn how much time he needed and he says he would get with Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton over the issues and then get with the court for a new date. Judge Chambers who wants to get this case going said this would happen before the end of the year.
