HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 39-year-old man charged after he allegedly carjacked a woman’s car was scheduled for a preliminary hearing and was bound over on two of three charges against him.
Ricky Ray Smith Jr. will face charges of robbery and felony flee and elude while Judge Tim Chambers didn’t find enough evidence for a charge of criminal damage to property.
Smith is alleged to have forcibly removed a local woman from her vehicle then taking off. That led to law enforcement looking for the vehicle. He was eventually spotted in South Hutchinson. Smith is alleged to have led law enforcement on a high-speed chase into the county, where eventually he was captured.
He’s free on bond and the case will now move to a possible jury trial.
