HUTCHINSON Kan. – A Kingman County man died in an accident just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday in Reno County.
The Kansas Highway patrol reported a 2000 Ford Taurus driven by Donald L. Potter, 40, Cunningham, was southbound on Kansas 14 two miles west of Hutchinson.
The vehicle struck the rear trailer of a 2009 Kenworth superload semi and then struck the semi’s escort vehicle, a northbound 2012 Ford F350 head-on.
Potter was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Sedgwick County Forensics center.
The driver of the Ford truck, Rose M. Fausett, 63, Fort Duchesne, Utah, was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
The semi driver, Jason L. Yowell, 33, Bowie, Texas, was not injured.
All three drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Emergency Crews worked a fatality accident early Wednesday morning on K-96/K-14 west of Hutchinson.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a small vehicle was southbound while a semi (super-load) with a trailer carrying a wind nacelle was northbound. The third vehicle was an escort vehicle for the semi. The small vehicle struck the rear of the semi trailer and then struck the pickup head-on.
Witnesses say two ambulances were called to the scene and both transported possibly two, maybe three victims. We know at least one person has died, but the condition of any others injured is unknown. The Kansas Highway Patrol worked the accident and was assisted for a time by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.
An air ambulance was called to the scene, but it doesn’t appear it was used. The highway was reopened just before noon, Wednesday.
The accident resulted in the closing of the highway both ways between 4th Street and Wilson Road, so they could work the accident on the two-lane freeway two miles west of Hutchinson.
No names have been released thus far. The accident occurred just after 7 a.m.
