PRATT, Kan. – Sheriff officials in Pratt and other departments were involved in a manhunt yesterday.
They tell us that at approximately 11:00 a.m. a Pratt County Sheriff’s Officer made a traffic stop three miles south and six miles east of Pratt on a vehicle that had been reported as suspicious and looking around a rural residence.
A passenger immediately jumped out and ran. He was identified by the officer as 24-year-old Shawn Hammond, wanted in Pratt County on felony charges for possession of firearms and controlled substances.
K-9 units from Barber and Pawnee Counties, as well as the Kansas Highway Patrol, searched the area for approximately three and a half hours with roads in the area being blocked off.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Hammond was spotted at a residence drinking from a garden hose about a mile from where he ran from the vehicle.
He then allegedly ran into a wooded and pasture area and was quickly apprehended by officers.
Hammond, who lives in the city of Pratt, was arrested on the warrant and taken to jail.
According to the Pratt County Jail log, he could also face charges of having no driver’s license and interference with law enforcement.
