HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Labor Friday released the latest unemployment numbers, which reflect rates in the month of July.
It shows that the rate in Hutchinson jumped to 5.3 percent in July from 4.7 percent in June. That number is also higher than the rate for July of last year when the rate was at 5.1 percent.
The rate for Reno County also increased to 5 percent in July, compared to 4.5 percent in June. That number is also higher than the rate for the county in July of last year. Then the rate was 4.8 percent.
According to the numbers, 1,559 residents in Reno County were unemployed in July, with most of those living in the city of Hutchinson.
All of the surrounding counties also saw rates increase.
Even the state’s unemployment rate increased in July. The Department of Labor reports that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 percent, up from 4.5 percent in June and up from 4.4 percent in July 2014.
