Former Wells Aircraft employee to be honored

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A long time avionics technician for Wells Aircraft, George H. Clobes, will wells aircraftposthumously receive The Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award for “Over Fifty Years of Dedicated Service in Aviation Safety” at a special ceremony on Thursday.

Clobes was hired by Wells Aircraft in November 1969 and worked as Wells Aircraft Avionics Department Manager until he retired on Jan. 5, 2011. George spent 42 years with Wells Aircraft Inc., not including his military service, and worked in aviation for over 60 years.

Don Rogers, President of Wells Aircraft, estimates that Clobes touched over 5,000 aircraft in his career with Wells Aircraft alone. Clobes passed away in February 2011.

The award will be presented to Clobes’ grandson, Zach Clobes, during the ceremony. The award will be presented by James Lamb with the Wichita FAA Flight Standards District Office and Verle R. Engel, who is a retired FAA Flight Standards Principal Maintenance Inspector.

Family, past retired employees, Hutchinson Airport Advisory Committee and friends will be in attendance to witness this award presentation that begins at 2:45 at Wells Aircraft at the Hutchinson Airport.
