HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 48-year-old man who had served time in prison then arrested by police early Wednesday morning on drug and weapons charges appeared from the Reno County Jail via video for a first appearance.
Jacob Logan III faces possible charges of possession of meth with intent to distribute, criminal possession of a firearm for having a sawed off shotgun, criminal use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. The gun allegedly had the serial number removed.
It’s unlawful for Logan to have weapons because of prior felony convictions. However, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections, he served time in prison for various convictions including theft, burglary, attempted indecent liberties, robbery and attempted robbery. The convictions out of Geary and Reno counties. Those convictions date back to 80’s and 90’s.
He was apparently stopped around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday for a tag violation. The officer then allegedly smelled marijuana. That led to a search of the vehicle and Logan’s arrest.
He’s jailed on a bond of $17,000 and the issue of any reduction didn’t even come up. Judge Trish Rose set a status hearing in the case for next Wednesday when the state is expected to file formal charges.
