HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Police are working a standoff with an individual outside the Rusty Needle Bar and Grill at 1808 North Plum. It’s apparently been going on for awhile now with a large police presence.
The individual is armed and police are working to get him to surrender. He may be suicidal according to Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson.
The city has blocked Plum Street with barricades from 23rd south to 17th. Police and Sheriff officials are working to keep on lookers out of the area. What makes it more concerning are some events going on at the state fairgrounds including some type of livestock show which is right across the street from where this standoff is occurring.
The Reno County Sheriff’s Department is assisting police with this situation. That is about all we know at this time.
An ambulance and fire truck are on stand by near the Kwik Shop at 17th & Plum.
Eagle reporter Rod Zook is on scene and we’ll bring you updates as they become available.
