Alcoa presents financial gift to Cosmosphere

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Alcoa Aerospace Center today announced an Alcoa Foundation grant to the Cosmo logoCosmosphere Science and Education Center.

The Cosmosphere is in the process of adding interactive educational clusters to their facility in the main lobby. Alcoa Aerospace Center’s $50,000 grant assists funding for the materials cluster will introduce materials used in the aerospace industry, including aluminum, which flies more than any other man made material.

The target groups for the program are students in elementary and high school. Through engagement with the clusters they will gain insight into the concepts that support the manufacturing industry. In addition, they will understand the link between the physics, engineering of materials and the space program. Jeremy Pepper, Alcoa Operations Manager, “We have such a strong, natural linkage between the Alcoa Aerospace Center’s support of STEM education and the mission of the Cosmosphere to inspire and educate our future scientists, engineers and leaders. We are proud to be able to provide this support and look forward to future partnerships with the Cosmosphere.”

Cosmosphere President Jim Remar says the interactive program is one of many the Cosmosphere hopes to put in place as they continue to update the museum, and their education programs.
