HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Two of the five people who were taken into custody on July 15 after a short standoff with police once again appeared via video from the Reno County Jail for the reading of formal charges.

Forty-two-year-old Charlette Ann Jenkins is now charged with possession of methamphetamine, criminal possession of a firearm, “a Glock 19,” possession of stolen property, that being the gun, felony interference with law enforcement, possession of depressants, possession of marijuana and personal use drug paraphernalia.

In court Thursday, she asked for a reduction of her bond saying she has a case in Meade County. But, Judge Joe McCarville very firmly said “no,” saying when her bond was reduced in the past, she would take off for other states and would have to be brought back. Her bond was left at $113,000.

Twenty-eight-year-old Matthew Lewis Perez also appeared via video from the jail. He is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of depressants and possession of marijuana, both with prior convictions, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He told the judge that none of the drugs were his and that he crashed at the wrong house.

You may recall us telling you that two people wanted in Illinois were also taken into custody and waived extradition to Illinois.

The case started with police discovering a stolen car from Macomb, Ill., at an apartment complex at 3rd and Pershing. As they were searching the complex, one person came out and informed law enforcement that there were others inside the apartment that were armed. After about 45 minutes, authorities took three people from the apartment into custody while the fifth was apprehended as he came up to law enforcement from across the street.

Twenty-year-old Trevor Hover was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear and failure of payment in a theft case.

With the charges filed against Jenkins and Perez, their cases will now move to a future waiver-status docket.
