14th Annual Festival of Remembrance coming Aug. 13 at Prairie Dunes

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The 14th annual Festival of Remembrance, an annual fundraising auction to benefit Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, at Prairie Dunes Country Club, beginning at 6 p.m.

Kevin and Jodee Bowen, local business leaders and civic activists, will again serve as co-chairpersons and primary sponsors of the event.

Raffle tickets will be available to audience members throughout the evening for the opportunity to win a car donated by Mel Hambelton Ford in Wichita, along with other items donated by Westphal Jewelry in Hutchinson.

Diane Caffrey, Community Liaison for Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, said the auction is the organization’s largest fundraiser each year and proceeds are earmarked for hospice service is provided by the not-for-profit agency.

Caffrey said a portion of the funds raised at this year’s event will be allocated for the purchase of a whirlpool tub for Hospice House.

“A number of the participants have attended most, if not all, of the previous 13 Festivals of Remembrance,” Caffrey said. “The Hutchinson community has, since the event’s inception, been very generous in their support of the Festival of Remembrance and we can never thank them enough for their continued support.”

Ken Johnson, Interim President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, said there is no better example of Hutchinson’s benevolence than the Festival of Remembrance.
