HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Just before 9 p.m., last night, Hutchinson Fire crews responded to the 200 block of East 17th for a structure fire. When they arrived, they found some shrubs and bushes on fire next to a house. The fire charred the siding and a window, but onlookers had mostly extinguished the fire before crews arrived.
The fire was controlled in 5 minutes with units on scene for approximately 20 minutes doing overhaul of the fire area. Preliminary damage is estimated at $2,000. Damage was sustained to the exterior siding and window area.
The cause of the fire appears to be fireworks that got into the bushes and shrubs. The residence was occupied by two adults and one child. No one was injured in the fire.
