Taking nothing to chance, a portion of West 1st between Adams and Washington was closed off for a short time Thursday morning after a call came in about an unattended backpack sitting near a garage where county vehicles are stored. The building located between the Reno County Jail Annex and Community Corrections.
Police closed off the road while officers tried to determine of the backpack contained anything dangerous. According to Hutchinson Police Chief Dick Heitschmidt, the backpack had identification on it and after contacting the person it belonged to, the area was declared safe and the street was reopened.
You may recall that two backpacks filled with explosives were used by the terrorist to kill and injure those attending the Boston Marathon.
