A 72-year-old Hays woman was taken to a Wichita hospital after a car – semi crash in Stafford County Wednesday morning. Taken to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita was Barbara D. Roberts.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, she was southbound on U-S 281, had stopped at the stop sign at the U-S 50 junction. She then pulled into the path of an eastbound semi driven by 30-year-old Gloria Mercado of Dodge City. Roberts vehicle then entered the northeast ditch and over-turned on its top. The semi entered the southeast ditch after striking a southeast corner sign post, then collided with a Kansas Department Of Transportation fence post, then struck a barbed wire fence where it then came to rest.
Mercado was not injured in the crash and both drivers were wearing seat-belts according to the report.
This occurring around 8:45 a-m, Wednesday morning, 2-miles south of St. John.
