HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 32-year-old man was jailed after his arrest at Walmart for possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent and no tax stamp.

Jerry L. Mahan II is jailed on a bond of $23,500 after his arrest by police around 6:50 p.m. Sunday.

He was apparently sitting on a bench and left a black case on the bench as he left. Someone found it and turned it in to customer service. They noticed that the contents didn’t look legal, so when Mahan came back to claim the case, police were called in. The case allegedly contained meth and cocaine that police believe was in a distribution amount.

In court, he claimed he didn’t know anything about the contents of the case. He asked for a reduction of his bond, saying he’s on parole and isn’t a flight risk. The state opposed any reduction and Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen agreed.

Mahan was paroled back in January after serving time for drug distribution charges for a case in 2007. Other convictions involving drugs go back to a case in 2001.

He’s expected back in court Wednesday for the formal reading of charges.
