HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 19-year-old man serving time in prison for numerous burglary and theft convictions was before Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen for the reading of charges stemming from alleged crimes while he was being housed at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

Kevin Wilson (top left) is charged with trafficking in contraband at the Hutchinson prison. The state alleges that between Dec. 19, 2014, and Jan. 13 of this year, he attempted to introduce items into the prison not allowed. Interestingly, it’s not the usual drugs or tobacco products, but things like cell phones, jewelry and cash.

The state also alleges that he conspired with two other individuals, one also serving time in the prison, that being 46-year-old Bryant Colbert (top right).

Wilson is serving time for burglary and theft convictions out of Sedgwick and Butler Counties.
Colbert is serving time for aggravated kidnapping, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated burglary and rape. Those convictions are all out of Montgomery County. He’s also charged in this case, but hasn’t appeared in court yet. As it stand now, he’s not eligible for parole until 2040, but if convicted on these new charges, that would change.

The third conspirator, according to the complaint, is Janet Gutierrez. It’s unclear if she’s been charged.

Wilson’s case is now being transferred to a waiver-status docket on July 21. He has since been moved from Hutchinson and is being housed at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.
