Man accused in drug case from 2013 appears in court to hear charges
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally a person will be brought before a judge to hear charges read in a case that was filed some time ago.
That was the case Thursday when 26-year-old Zachary M. Hatton was told the state had filed a complaint in Dec. of 2013 charging him with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to sell a controlled substance, personal use drug paraphernalia, refusal to be tested for driving under the influence, DUI and illegal transportation of liquor.
The case goes back to January 20, 2013 when the arrest was made on the charges after an apparently traffic stop by law enforcement.
Bond in the case was set at $5,000 in this case according to Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen. Hatton indicated he would hire his own attorney, so the case is set for a status hearing on June 3, to see if he has an attorney hired.
Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton says that they had filed a complaint earlier and he was not bound over when the preliminary hearing was held, so he refiled the case on Dec. 6, 2013 and Hatton was arrested in Logan County.
