Fourth suspect in burglary, kidnapping and robbery case makes court appearances
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The fourth individual suspected of being involved with the aggravated robberies in Hutchinson made his first appearance this morning.
Nineteen-year-old Dakota Anderson immediately told the judge that if any of the charges had to do with the Family Affair robbery, he has proof that he wasn’t involved, saying he was serving a 60-day jail sanction for violating his probation in a previous burglary case. He also asked for a reduction of bond, which totals $145,000 for this latest case. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson told Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that because of the nature of the charges and details of the case, the bond should remain. He told of one of the victims being tied to a toilet and the suspects throwing his cell phone in the toilet so he couldn’t call police. The judge denied the request for any reduction. The bonds, according to the Reno County Jail log, total $370,000.
Anderson faces charges including three counts of aggravated burglary, one count of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated battery.
He also appeared for a first appearance on a probation violation for other cases. A hearing on that issue will be scheduled in the near future.
Anderson, along with Jordon Leffel, 19, Brendan Jones, 17, and Frederick Lemens Jr., 20, are suspected in the three crimes, including the robbery of Family Affair business located at 1515 E. 4th and home invasions at 3601 Rockwood Dr. and 3415 N. Waldron. The Family Affair robbery occurred on April 6, the two home invasions occurred May 4 and May 14.
The three adults are expected back in court Wednesday where the state is expected to have filed formal charges.
The case against Brendan Jones will proceed through Juvenile Court.
