HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Three people have been arrested including a juvenile in association with aggravated robberies in the area.
These arrest have to do with a series of crimes in the city starting in early April.
20-year-old Frederick Lemens Jr., (top left) was in court Friday morning on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and flee and elude with a bond of $96,500 and was denied a request for a bond reduction when he appeared in court.
He along with Jordan Leffel (top right) and a juvenile, 17-year-old Brendan Jones have been arrested in association with the crimes.
Starting on April 6, around 2:10 p.m., the Family Affair located at 1515 E. 4th was robbed at gunpoint by two assailants. The employee was beaten and tied up and the individuals then they allegedly stole merchandise from the store and then fled the area.
Then on May 4, around 2:30 a.m., 91-year-old Wesley Oakley who lives at 3601 Rockwood Dr. reported to police that multiple assailants entered his home and attacked him while he slept. These individuals allegedly beat him, then held him at gunpoint as they ransacked his home. The assailants stole weapons and jewelry including the victim’s WWII medals. The assailants stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle was recovered in Hutchinson a few days after the home invasion.
Next, on May 14, around 4 a.m., 56-year-old Brent Alan Rump of 3415 N. Waldron reported that multiple assailants entered his home and attacked him while he was sleeping. The individuals are alleged to have severely beat him, tied him up and then stole personal property including two vehicles. Later that morning Detective Jamie Schoenhoff located those vehicles. Detectives watched the vehicles and observed a black male enter one of the stolen of them and drive away before they could stop him.
A stop of the stolen vehicle was attempted at 7th and Main, but was unsuccessful as the driver rammed Sgt. Tyson Meyers’ detective car and then fled westbound on 7th. A brief chase ended in the west alley in the 600 block of North Jefferson when the driver fled the car and was subsequently arrested at 312 West 6th. The driver of the car was identified as Lemons.
The investigation of these crimes resulted in two search warrants being served, one at 312 West 6th and the other at 704 West 6th. They also did two consent searches at 1401 E. 23rd Apt. 162 and at 1705 East 3rd lot #7 . As a result of this investigation, detectives were able to identify the assailants and recover stolen property from the Family Affair aggravated robbery and the two home invasions.
Jones was detained for one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated kidnapping in connection to the Family Affair and one count aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary in connection to the home invasion at 3601 Rockwood Dr. Jones remains at the Bob Johnson’s Detention Center.
Leffel was arrested for one count of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated kidnapping in connection with the Family Affair robbery, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of aggravated robbery in connection to the home invasion at 3601 Rockwood Dr.
Meanwhile, the Hutchinson Police Department is actively seeking the location of 19-year-old Dakota Richard Andersen (shown on the right) who stands about 6 ft. tall, weighing 180 pounds. He’s wanted in connection to these cases. Police say Anderson should be considered armed and dangerous. The Hutchinson Police Department highly recommends everyone to lock their doors as they found the victims were selected based on ease of entry into the home. This is an ongoing investigation.
Lemens is already well known to police for another case from July of last year where he’s alleged to have committed aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana, criminal restraint and having no drivers license.
In that case, the victim alleges that Lemens and two other men robbed him during the altercation, but Lemens was the one arrested in association with the actual robbery.
That case is pending trial according to Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson.
