HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The effort spearheaded by former Kroger President Dave Dillon to allow supermarkets in Kansas to sell full strength liquor and beer appears to be on the way out in this legislative session.
Dillon was behind the effort called Uncorked Kansas to loosen Kansas restrictions on the sale of liquor and wine. The effort was met with strong opposition by lobbyist representing more than 700 liquor stores in Kansas. A lesser version of the bill that would have allowed counties to vote on the matter also died in the senate.
Efforts to get the measure on the a larger bill on alcohol regulations failed 26-11, and the bill was then passed by a vote of 31-5. The bill now goes to the house.
