Local woman busted on variety of charges
HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 31-year-old woman accused of trying to elude law enforcement while having two kids in her vehicle made a first appearance on the charges against her Tuesday morning.
Kendra Nichols is accused of felony flee and elude, two counts of endangerment of a child, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended and no proof of insurance.
Police attempted to stop her during the noon hour Monday and she allegedly tried to elude them, but in court she told the judge that it lasted maybe a block. The stop occurred in the west alley in the 300 block of North Spencer.
In court, she asked for a reduction of bond while the state asked the bond stay the same considering she had two kids, ages two and three in the vehicle with her. Plus, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson says there is also some concern because drugs were involved.
After hearing all the arguments of the defendant and the state, Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen and the state agreed to lower the bond from $7,600 to $3,000.
Nichols will be back in court on May 20.
