HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Local Police responded to the area of the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for a report of a stolen car around 6:50 a.m. Thursday. The vehicle stolen had been taken by a white man who forcibly removed the owner from the vehicle. All area law enforcement officers quickly started looking for the vehicle and a South Hutchinson officer located the vehicle being driven through their city. A vehicle pursuit ensued out into the county and ended with the capture of the man.
Thirty-nine-year-old Ricky Ray Smith Jr. was arrested on multiple felony charges that will include the robbery of the vehicle and felony flee and elude.
Smith has felony convictions and served time in prison for forgery, felony flee and elude, driving while suspended, reckless driving, three convictions for theft and burglary. Those convictions go back to 1996, 2003 and 2010.
