Hutchinson woman formally charged in drug distribution case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 29-year-old Hutchinson woman arrested last week on drug distribution charges did not appear in court as expected because she apparently hired a private attorney who entered their appearance in the case.
Nicole Hays is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of hydrocodone and possession of drug paraphernalia, all with intent to distribute. She’s also charged with possession of marijuana and personal use drug paraphernalia.
The case against Hays starts with a search warrant being executed at her residence back on April 27, in Hutchinson where inside a bedroom, they allegedly found several containers with a crystal like substance, a vacuum sealed bag of marijuana, a black container of marijuana and a plastic bag with meth and marijuana inside. They also found a black digital scale, glass smoking pipes and inside a pair of jeans, they found nine Hydrocodone pills.
In total, the meth weighed 57.6 grams and the marijuana 13.3 grams.
Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen set the case as part of his waiver-status docket on June 15.
HCF inmate arraigned in aggravated battery case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 47-year-old Hutchinson Correctional Facility inmate charged with aggravated battery against another inmate was in court Monday where he entered a “not guilty” plea to the charge.
Nathaniel Kenney allegedly battered 26-year-old Rene Chavez-Aguilar back on March 24, inside the prison here in Hutchinson.
Kenney is serving time for aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping in Wyandotte County in 2010, while Chavez-Aguilar is serving time for two counts of murder in the second degree and aggravated battery. Those crimes occurring in Sedgwick County back in 2008.
The case against Kenney will now move to a pretrial and possible jury trial in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
HCC student arrested in criminal threat case makes court appearance Tuesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 19-year-old student arrested last week at Hutchinson Community College for allegedly making a threat to shoot up the school was in court Tuesday where he was read the complaint against him.
According to Hutchinson Police, HCC Security reported that Cody Turner had posted a threat to commit violence on campus, but no specifics were given relating to date or time. Working with HCC Security and their IT department, officers were able to determine it was Turner. He was brought to the Law enforcement Center for questioning, then arrested.
There was no specific target at the school, and that it didn’t appear Turner had the means in his possession to carry out such a threat.
Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen set a status hearing in the case for May 20. Turner indicated he was in the process of hiring his own attorney.
