Rotary Club dedication

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The local Rotary Club celebrated 100 years in the community with a buffet lunch downtown, then the dedication of its Centennial Project in Avenue A Park.

The Guest Speaker at the lunch was Phil Silvers, Past RI Director, who talked about the Peace Forum II and the power of nonprofits such as Rotary in the peace-building process.

Immediately after the lunch, they had the ribbon cutting ceremony at Avenue A Park. Local Rotary Club President Wayne Unruh says they’re lucky that they have a strong organization in Hutchinson with numerous members.

He says they stepped up to help make a very nice park downtown even nicer with the project. He says it was an area that needed some repair which included bricks, some with names and remembrances of loved ones as well as a planted tree. The area is located in the far northwest corner of the park.

Within that small area is a metal table and seats with the Rotary logo on it. Unruh says that shows their support for making the park even nicer, but also promotes the organization within the community.

Chamber and city officials were also on hand for the dedication.
