HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A second jury trial is set for July 14 for a Nickerson man who was arrested in Texas last week after fleeing from the area four years ago. Armando Corral failed to appear in court following a mistrial in numerous drug cases in December of 2011.
Corral was arrested in El Paso, Texas, trying to cross the border April 24. He appeared in Reno County District Court Wednesday where his bond was set at $500,000.
Corral was on trial for numerous counts of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and using a communication device to make drug transactions. The mistrial occurred after one of the jurors read a newspaper article about the trial, then brought it up in ear shot of other jurors. Corral was arrested after making numerous deals with a KBI agent over an extended period of time.
Corral also awaits a preliminary hearing for a count of aggravated failure to appear. No date has been set for that hearing.
