HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Reno County bucked the state trend as natural gas production in the county increased in 2014 from the previous year. According to numbers released from the Kansas Geological Survey total natural gas production in Reno County was 1,891,000 mcf, compared with 1,572,000 mcf the year before. There were 27 more gas wells in Reno County in 2014 than in 2013. It is the most gas produced in Reno County since 1997.
Oil production was also on the up side. Despite falling prices, oil production in the county totaled 895,588 barrels compared with 570,654 in 2013. The total is the highest number of barrels produced going back to 1995 according KGS data. There were four fewer wells in Reno County, 407, compared to 2013
Statewide oil production increased by 5.7 percent while gas production decreased by 2.5 percent.
