HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Rates at the Reno County landfill will go up across the board if Commissioners pass a resolution that will be before them next week.
Commissioners heard a report from the landfill about the proposed $.75 increase per ton for the counties that use the landfill, and a similar increase per year for Reno County residents. The increase would make the total landfill assessment on a resident’s taxes at $70.75. The increase is still less than most area landfills, but the county feels it is needed to help keep up with costs that the landfill will have with new expansion over the next ten years, and its continued fund for post closure care of the area.
Rate for the five outside counties that use the landfill would go up in the next budget year while Reno County residents won’t see the increase until the fall of 2016.
