HUTCHINSON – Girl Scout troops in Hutchinson are participating in the Great American Aluminum Can Drive on Saturday, April 18, and they’re inviting the community to help them win the national recycling challenge for a fourth year in a row.

Hutchinson Girl Scout Troops 50028 and 50244 are coordinating the annual aluminum can drive in conjunction with Earth Day. The public is invited to bring aluminum cans to MidWest Iron & Metal, 700 S. Main, between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday, April 18. There will be a special premium paid for all cans turned in that day, which can be donated to local Girl Scout troops or paid to the individual or group turning in the cans.

The can drive is part of the nationwide Great American Can Roundup-Scout Council Challenge, an environmental fundraiser that runs through April 30. Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland has won the challenge three years in a row, with Hutchinson troops being recognized locally and nationally for recycling more than 32,000 pounds of aluminum during last year’s drive.
