HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As expected it was a lengthy discussion, but in the end the Hutchinson City Council Tuesday approved the establishment of a rental inspection program during their session Tuesday.
The city’s been working to come up with a way to deal with run down rental properties. Under the inspection program, all rental property owners will have to pay $25.00 per unit inspection fee. The money will be used to fund the program and the inspections. Each unit would be inspected every three years or when the property changes ownership. A $50.00 per month fine would be imposed for unregistered property.
They plan to hire an inspector to run the program. The program would also provide incentives to landlords to stay in good standing with the city. Those incentives would have properties inspected every six years instead of three.
