Hutchinson man formally charged in aggravated assault case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old Hutchinson man has been formally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal discharge of a firearm at or in an occupied dwelling, possession of stolen property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Christopher A. VanWye is accused of threatening a man during an altercation back on December 15, 2014. He’s also alleged to have fired the weapon at a home in the 800 block of West 14th on that same date. He’s alleged to have put the gun at a man’s head while threatening him.
The state also alleges that the weapon, an Astra 357 revolver was stolen from another individual and that at the very least, VanWye was in possession of stolen property. At the time of his arrest, he reportedly was in possession of marijuana.
He remains jailed on a $15,000 bond and is being housed out of county.
Reno County man sentencing in indecent liberties case set for Friday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The man who entered a plea for the inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl is scheduled for sentencing on Friday.
Cody Buck entered the plea and was found guilty of one count of indecent liberties with a child which allegedly occurred in July of 2013. Sheriff officials say he was seventeen at the time and occurred in the Turon area of Reno County. The case started when sheriff investigators began looking into a case of a man kissing a minor child which led to the discovery of the more serious encounter involving the two.
Sentencing is scheduled in front of Judge Trish Rose.
Parolee expected back in court in aggravated burglary case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 36-year-old Partridge man jailed after he allegedly entered a home and other properties without permission is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Friday. Willhite is suspected of aggravated burglary, burglary, theft and criminal damage.
His arrest coming after a number of reports starting in December of him entering properties or attempting to enter properties without permission. In one case, a woman woke up to see him standing at her bedroom door.
His bond was set at $25,750.
Willhite is on parole for convictions for burglary and possession of drugs out of Chautauqua County. He was paroled here in Reno County back on Oct. 10.
Suspect in marijuana cultivation case waives preliminary hearing
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 51-year-old man charged with his son in a marijuana cultivation case waived his right to a preliminary hearing and we’ll be arraigned next month.
Johnny Payne is charged with cultivation of marijuana, conspiracy to cultivate marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to cultivate marijuana and personal use drug paraphernalia. He was arrested along with Jonathan Payne back on November 23 on theses charges.
Drug Unit Detectives are alleged to have found 12 marijuana plants at the home in the 1500 block of North Monroe.
He’ll be arraigned on the marijuana cultivation charges on April 6.
Hutch man scheduled for sentencing in child sex case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 34-year-old man convicted of aggravated indecent liberties with a child is scheduled for sentencing Friday afternoon in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
David Baldwin pleaded guilty to the single count in which he admits occurred some time between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30, 2012. The case involves the inappropriate touching of a 7-year-old child.
The case falls under Jessica’s Law, meaning the sentencing calls for a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years, however as part of a plea agreement, both sides will recommend a downward departure to the regular sentencing guidelines grid box and sentence him on a level one felony. However, its up to Judge Chambers on what the sentence should be.
