HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County District Attorney’s Office has filed a charge of attempted capital murder against an inmate who was being housed at Hutchinson Correctional Facility Central Unit.
43-year-old Corey Jeffery is accused of stabbing a corrections officer back on September 17, 2014. Corrections Officer Tim Russell who was working at the central unit received multiple stab wounds and was transported to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by EMS for treatment.
Jeffery is actually from Minnesota and was sentenced there to prison for a conviction of murder. He was being housed as a courtesy by the state of Kansas.
After the incident, he was taken into custody and was placed in the Administrative Segregation Unit. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
When he will make an initial court appearance is unknown, but Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton telling us that the complaint has been filed with the District Court.
