Local man to be arraigned for aggravated indecent liberties

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 60-year-old Hutchinson man bound over for trial on a charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child faces arraignment on the charges Friday.

The case against Juan Anguiano involves the inappropriate touching of an 8-year-old girl and occurred on Sept. 6 of last year. The incident occurred on a couch in an apartment he shared with his fiancée. She testified at the preliminary hearing that she woke up about 11:15 p.m. and saw him on top of the 8 year old. She says she screamed and he jumped up. When she told him she was going to call the police, he quickly got dressed and ran out of the apartment. He was located the next day. The crime occurring back in September of last year.

Anguiano doesn’t speak any English and an interpreter was brought in to translate the testimony in the preliminary hearing.

Man convicted in assault and drug case set for Sentencing Friday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 33-year-old Hutchinson man who was convicted on charges over an altercation where he allegedly pointed and discharged a gun after he entered pleas in the case is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.

Nicholas Espinoza entered pleas to aggravated assault, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Espinoza was arrested after Jennifer Rutan told police that a Hispanic male pointed a gun in her direction as she and her husband drove west on a south side Hutchinson street. He was also accused of firing a gun in the air at some point. A volunteer officer heard a gunshot while in the area. They reportedly found a spent 40-caliber shell outside the home of Espinoza in the 100 block of East Campbell.

He has previous felony convictions for drugs going back to May of 2011 that makes it illegal for him to have any type of weapon and could effect how much time he gets in prison.

Missouri man convicted of multiple burglary counts scheduled for sentencing Friday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Missouri man convicted for 19 local burglaries here in Hutchinson is scheduled for sentencing on Friday.

Joseph Paul Jones Jr. was found guilty on all counts involving the crimes which occurred back in the late night hours of May 13 and the early morning hours of May 14, of last year. He was convicted for breaking into the local businesses by prying open doors or breaking the glass windows with a crow bar. Jones is also accused of cutting the telephone lines at several businesses before making entry.

Judge Trish Rose set a special setting in the case because of the number of charges and any motions that might be filed in the case prior to sentencing.

His conviction was for 39 counts involving all these burglaries.

How his conviction for similar crimes in the Springfield, Mo. area is unknown. He also faces charges in both Sedgwick and Lyon counties.
