HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As you would expect, county sales tax received with the February numbers were up since they represent the tax actually collected in December.
The numbers released by County Treasurer Jan Hull Tuesday which shows the county collected $458,017. compared with the January number which showed a tax collection of $386,329. That’s a difference of $72,000.
The numbers also show the county is ahead of last year for the first two months of the year by just over $57,000. So far this year, the county has received $844,347. compared with the roughly $787,255. for the same period last year.
Tax collections used specifically for building a new jail and also improvements to the Law Enforcement Center and a new courthouse entrance are also up. The money received in February was $491,385 compared to $410,758 received in January. That’s also up from February of last year when the county received $449,168.
Again the February numbers reflect taxes collected during the Christmas shopping season in December.
